Description

This refreshing gin and elderflower cocktail is made with fresh grapefruit and lemon juice and prosecco simple syrup.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 ounces gin
  • 1 ounce fresh squeezed pink grapefruit juice
  • 3/4 ounce fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 ounce elderflower liquor like St. Germain
  • 1/2 ounce Prosecco simple syrup (recipe below in the notes)
  • Ice
  • Grapefruit peel, berries and flowers to garnish, if desired

Instructions

  1.  Add the gin, grapefruit and lemon juice, elderflower liquor, and prosecco syrup to a shaker filled with ice and seal.
  2. Shake hard for 20 seconds.
  3. Pour into a chilled coupe glass. You can pour through a strainer to catch any remaining juice pulp or seeds, if needed.
  4. Garnish the glass with some grapefruit peel or as desired.
  5. Cheers!

Notes

  1. I would use a good quality gin that is more citrus or floral forward and less juniper-forward. I used a Scottish gin called Rock Rose. Hendrick’s would also be a good option.
  2. To make the Prosecco syrup, take equal parts Prosecco and sugar (I used 1 cup Prosecco and 1 cup sugar) and add to a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and let it simmer until all the sugar is dissolved and the liquid has started to thicken, about 3-5 minutes. The syrup can be refrigerated in a glass jar for up to 1 month. If you need to store it longer, it can also be frozen.
  3. This recipe is adapted from the Fairlaine cocktail at the San Diego restaurant Fort Oak.
