If you aren’t already a fan of ranch water, you’re going to be!

This popular refreshing, bubbly cocktail is rumored to have been invented in West Texas. But you don’t have to be a cattle rancher to appreciate its crisp, tangy, not-too-sweet taste, and thirst-quenching yumminess.

Plus, it’s is super easy and quick to make with just 3 essential ingredients!

Ranch Water Drink Ingredients:

Yep, this cocktail is everything you want in a beat-the-heat summer cocktail! Here’s what you’ll need to make this ranch water recipe.

  • TEQUILLA: I prefer to use a white tequila for this recipe.
  • FRESH LIME JUICE: Use freshly-squeezed lime juice for that bright, tangy flavor.
  • SPARKLING MINERAL WATER: Most ranch water recipes call for using Topo Chico mineral water. But you can use your favorite bubbly water.
  • SIMPLE SYRUP (OPTIONAL): Add a splash of simple syrup if you like your ranch water a little sweeter. You could also use some agave syrup.

How to Make Ranch Water

This cocktail might just be one of the all-time easiest drinks to make. All you need to do is:

  • TEQUILA AND LIME JUICE: Add the tequila and lime juice to a glass (plus the simple syrup if using)
  • ICE: Fill the glass with ice
  • MINERAL WATER: Top the cocktail with mineral water
  • SERVE: Garnish with a lime wedge and serve

More Recipe Tips:

  • Do I have to Use Topo Chico Mineral Water? No! I personally love the taste of Topo Chico, and it works great in this cocktail. But any mineral water would work.
  • What Type of Tequila is Best in Ranch Water? Silver (blanco) tequila is most often used in ranch water. But you can also use reposado (aged) tequila or even mezcal for a more tequila-forward flavor.
  • Rim Options: Garnishing the rim of your glass is optional. But I use a fresh lime wedge to wet the edge of the glass and then dipped it in some salt and/or some spicy Tajin seasoning.
  • How to Make Simple Syrup: To make simple syrup, heat equal parts sugar and water (1 cup water and 1 cup sugar) in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until sugar is slowly dissolved (don’t boil). Remove from the heat and let cool before using. You can store simple syrup in a sealed container in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks.
